February 12-13 - Canadian Birkebeiner Ski Festival
Canadian Birkebeiner Ski Festival is Canada's largest classical-format cross country ski festival. This festival relives an 800-year-old historic legend of the original Birkebeiners who saved the heir to the Norwegian throne in a 55km epic journey. A premier, affordable, family-oriented, friendly cross-country ski loppet (recreational event) honoring the spirit of the Norwegian Birkebeiner legend. Five events and distances – something to suit all ages and abilities: legendary premier 55 km Birkie with pack, 55 km Birkie Lite, 31 km Tour, 13 km Mini Birkie, and an un-timed 2.5 or 4 km Ole’s Tour for kids and novices.
February 19-21 - Silver Skate Festival
A blend of culture, arts, sport and recreation has been carefully planned in the six distinct areas of the festival: Opening Ceremonies at Hawrelak Park, the Cessco Snow Sculpture Garden/Competition, Interactive Family Area, Free Public Programming, Mammoet Winter Triathlon, and the Northgate 10 km & 25 km Marathons. Come and enjoy a weekend of artistic, cultural and outdoor activities inclusive of all ages and lifestyles.
