Meetings and Business Travel

Business Travel wound down towards the end of 2008 with a hugely successful MOTTO Sales Mission to Montreal, Ottawa and Toronto in November. Twenty of our industry partners made the 3-day trip with Glenn Duncan, Eleanor Fulton and Mike Miller to host local association, corporate and government meeting planners in each of these three key cities. As the photos show, the events were well attended and our clients enthusiastically bought into the themes put together by our esteemed partner - CEO Corporate Event Organization Inc.

Eleanor Fulton, former Manager, Business Travel, partnered with Travel Alberta International for a sales trip to Chicago in December. Edmonton was represented at the Greater Chicago area MPI Holiday Gala and the annual Association Forum Holiday Showcase tradeshow. Combined, these events were attended by 2700 Chicagoland Association and Corporate buyers.

Moving forward, the goal of Business Travel will continue to be that of maximizing the economic impact on Edmonton from Meetings. The Canadian Market will continue to be the focus of efforts to promote Edmonton as a preferred business travel destination. We will continue to create awareness of Edmonton through sales missions, attending industry conferences and exhibiting in Trade Shows. We will maintain our relationships with clients from the United States by participating with our CTC and TAI partners at their in market events.

Please join Glenn in welcoming two new staff members to the Tourism Development Team: Natacha Fudem, Manager of Leisure Travel International and Brent Beatty Manager of Business Travel.

If you would like more information on any of these initiatives, please contact Glenn Duncan at gduncan@edmonton.com or (780) 917-7622.
