Edmonton Events International

Edmonton’s 2015 bid committee made a strong and heartfelt presentation to the FISU delegates on May 23rd in Brussels as part of final step in the bidding process for the 2015 Summer Universiade Games. Unfortunately, Gwanju, South Korea received more votes to become host city in 2015. Edmonton’s bid committee will write a final evaluation report to get a better understanding of strengths and weaknesses of our bid and will use this information for other bid opportunities.

It is confirmed that Edmonton will play host to 2 world famous soccer clubs – Everton FC (England) and Club Atletico River Plate (Argentina). Everton FC of the English Premier League will play a “friendly” against one of the giants of South American football, River Plate at Commonwealth Stadium on Saturday July 25th. This event ties into the Alberta Soccer Association’s 100th Anniversary.

EEI is working on the following leads –a world aquatics event for 2013 with Swim Alberta, the AthletesCAN Forum for 2011 (a high level sport forum for elite level athletes and sport leaders) and the North American Indigenous Games for 2014.

For more information on any of these initiatives, please contact Lindsay Harrison at lharrison@edmonton.com or (780) 917-7879.
