National Meeting Industry Day: Instead of holding our regular monthly Mixer, in April we are encouraging you to support the National Meeting Industry Day (NMID) on April 15th at 7:30 AM.

NMID has been celebrated across Canada for 14 years in eight major cities. In Edmonton they will be hosting a breakfast celebration and will be a time to connect with other professionals, to draw attention to the value of our local industry and to learn about social media from one of Canada's foremost experts. Social media expert Amber MacArthur will be delivering a keynote presentation that discusses social media trends.

To register, please visit www.nmid-edmonton.ca.

EEDC Annual Luncheon: Register now for the EEDC’s annual luncheon on April 19 at the Shaw Conference Centre, starting at 11 a.m. Join us for a look back at 2009 and a focus on 2010. Tickets are $50 each or $500 for a table of 10. Highlights include keynote speaker Dr. Indira Samarasekera, University of Alberta President, and the annual EEDC achievement awards.

Click here to book your seat today.

We always appreciate your feedback on our initiatives. If you have any comments please don’t hesitate to contact me directly at rmcvicker@edmonton.com or 780-917-7651.

Industry & Visitor Services

Industry Tourism Partners – Accommodating Edmonton Morning, Noon and Night: From feedback that we’ve received, we are re-vamping our Industry Mixers slightly for 2010. A frequent comment we hear is that our Partners work morning, noon and night and it’s difficult for some to attend our mixers because of schedules. Well, we heard you, and as a result, our Industry Mixers will now be on an alternating schedule.

Online Registration: Last year we implemented an online registration system to better manage and automate our events. The automation of the process has been greatly received. Some, however, still prefer to register offline, and receive an invoice. Effective May 2010, there will be an extra fee of $5 added to registrations that request to be invoiced. We thank you for understanding the additional administration that is involved makes that necessary.

Family day: On Feb. 15, 2010 The Downtown Visitor Information Centre welcomed 100+ families celebrating Family Day Downtown! Families where treated to snow cones while catching up on local attractions and events and little ones where thrilled to receive custom blown balloons by Festival Cities Noel Bundy!

Edmonton’s main visitor info centre voted silver in Alberta— Spruce Grove, Jasper, and Slave Lake also win RVwest reader awards

Edmonton’s Gateway Park Visitor Information Centre (VIC), on the south side of Edmonton accessible from Highway No. 2 northbound and southbound, has been awarded top honours for the fourth-straight year by RVwest Magazine.

The fourth annual RVwest Readers Choice Awards had 38 award categories. Edmonton’s Gateway Park VIC was voted silver for “favourite visitor information centre in Alberta” by the popular Cranbrook B.C.-based publication.

Edmonton Tourism's professional VIC staff help stimulate Greater Edmonton’s $1 billion-plus tourism industry by encouraging regional visitors to stay longer.

“Edmonton’s Gateway Park VIC has proudly served more than two million visitors since opening over two decades ago,” says Ken Fiske, EEDC Vice-President, Economic and Tourism Development. “Our knowledgeable, hard-working VIC staff is honoured to be acknowledged by RV travellers for their exemplary customer service.”

Other RVwest award winners from northern Alberta include:
  • “Favourite privately owned and operated RV park or campground in Alberta” – Glowing Embers RV Park, Spruce Grove

  • “Favourite overall RV destination in Alberta” – Jasper

  • “Favourite overall lake or waterfront destination in Alberta” – Lesser Slave Lake, Slave Lake
RVwest magazine is published online six times a year, and is supported by a monthly e-newsletter and a website that reaches over 30,000 RVers monthly across Western Canada.

The full list of RVwest Reader’s Choice winners is available at www.rvwest.com/readerschoice/
