National Meeting Industry Day: Instead of holding our regular monthly Mixer, in April we are encouraging you to support the National Meeting Industry Day (NMID) on April 15th at 7:30 AM.

NMID has been celebrated across Canada for 14 years in eight major cities. In Edmonton they will be hosting a breakfast celebration and will be a time to connect with other professionals, to draw attention to the value of our local industry and to learn about social media from one of Canada's foremost experts. Social media expert Amber MacArthur will be delivering a keynote presentation that discusses social media trends.

To register, please visit www.nmid-edmonton.ca.

EEDC Annual Luncheon: Register now for the EEDC’s annual luncheon on April 19 at the Shaw Conference Centre, starting at 11 a.m. Join us for a look back at 2009 and a focus on 2010. Tickets are $50 each or $500 for a table of 10. Highlights include keynote speaker Dr. Indira Samarasekera, University of Alberta President, and the annual EEDC achievement awards.

Glenn Duncan & Brent Beatty along with Alberta partners hosted a special client event and attended the annual Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA) annual conference in Dallas, TX from January 8-14, 2010. The client event attracted 12 key clients to a night of NHL hockey. The PCMA annual conference is one of the most prestigious events in the educational calendar for Association, Corporate and SMERF senior decision makers. 2010 estimated attendance was 3,500 people and it provided exceptional educational and networking opportunities.

Brent Beatty along with 9 local partners attended the annual Canadian Society of Association Executives (CSAE) annual Tete a Tete trade show and Travel Alberta Client event in Ottawa January 25 & 26, 2010. This show is the first major trade show event of the year. Strong traffic and feedback from clients at this year’s trade show, and an excellent Travel Alberta client event, suggested clients are putting the economic difficulties of 2009 behind them and looking forward with a positive outlook on the meetings industry for 2010.

On February 8-11, 2010, Mike Miller co-hosted Suite Night with Travel Alberta at the Honda Centre in Anaheim, CA. meeting with a number of corporate and association meeting planners as well as AAA representatives.

Glenn Duncan along with Directors of Sales and Marketing (DOSM) of the Downtown Destination Management Fund (DMF) Hotels participated in a week long sales mission to Ottawa with DMF downtown hotels from Feb 15-19, 2010. This trip was extremely well received and productive. Client feedback from these calls demonstrated that they felt that having senior level hotel partners on site (DOSM’s) made a profound impact on their impression of Edmonton.

Glenn Duncan with partners attended the Destination Marketing Association International (DMAI) Destinations Showcase and sales mission in Washington DC, from Feb 22- 26, 2010. Strong sales calls were augmented with the DMAI Tradeshow in the US #1 Association marketplace. The tradeshow featured a newly produced booth with the new “Fresh” campaign being the focus. Leads received include Alliance for Telecommunication Industry Solutions and Association of Public Treasurers.

If you would like more information on any of these initiatives, please contact Glenn Duncan at gduncan@edmonton.com or (780) 917-7622.
