In January, the Edmonton film commissioner traveled to Vancouver to lure Gynormous Productions to Edmonton with their feature film entitled "The Apologist." Although there is a small deficit in the budget yet to meet, plans are underway to start filming this project for spring 2009. Rumoured stars are Minnie Driver and Josh Lucas. Other meetings were held with Anaid Productions , BC Film, and independent Producer Pascal Pillot.
“The Pharmacist"- a low budget independent feature film started filming in the Edmonton region early February. Executive producer, Chester Sit, an Edmonton based independent producer has become a young emerging producer who seems to have his hand and eyes on the pulse of drama. Chester is definitely a man poised for success.
Edmonton film commissioner, Patti Tucker, delivered a report to City Council and from the presentation came three action items from City Council. These points will focus on getting continued government support so that the Edmonton film community can grow the industry and assist in diversifying the economy.
Recently Lionsgate was here to meet with the Province and the City of Edmonton’s Mayor Mandel to look at Season two of the existing deal in place for “Fear Itself”. Stay tuned for more details in the next coming months.
