Take One

In the past few years the Edmonton film focus group has been responsible for great success. It is this group of diverse stakeholders that leads and gives direction to the Edmonton film commissioner in setting goals to achieve results. Last year the focus group was responsible in taking the lead on a presentation “Take One” at the Shaw Conference Centre and the evening was a huge success.

Take One is a film friendly initiative that informs and educates the general public on the added value of filming in a community or region. Film Friendly policy has since been established and is now being endorsed by the City of Edmonton. It is a great selling tool and has assisted us in being recognized as “a production center of choice.”

Recently it was suggested by this group to partner with the Chamber of Commerce in putting on an event that would further educate and inform the business community of the economic benefits of filming. This event is in the preliminary stages and will coincide with the Edmonton International Film Festival. Fred Keating, a local actor, producer and talented host will act as a moderator working with a distinguished panel in a Q and A format. Stay tuned for more details on this exciting initiative!

If you would like additional information on these or other film initiatives contact Patti Tucker at ptucker@edmonton.com or (780) 917-7627.
