Meetings and Business Travel
Glenn Duncan along with Edmonton partners hosted the 3rd annual stand alone client event in Washington DC. Building upon the previous 2 years whereby they hosted primarily at the Washington Redskins game at FedEx Stadium, this year they intentionally built in a second event to showcase our arts and culture and festivals allowing our partners some value added networking time. A Saturday evening reception at the W hotel in downtown Washington DC featured Edmonton entertainers “Be Arthurs”. From August 15 - 19 Edmonton Tourism's Glenn Duncan and Brent Beatty attended the annual American Society of Association Executive (ASAE) Conference with the Canadian Tourism Commission (CTC) and Travel Alberta partners’ booth in Toronto. We support this show with our own kiosk in the CTC booth with additional support of local partners. This is the largest tradeshow for both American and Canadian association planners with 4800 delegates in 2009 and the first time it was held outside of the US in over 20 years. At the conclusion of this event Glenn and Brent represented Edmonton in our largest Canadian target market Ottawa with the Meeting Professionals Int'l (MPI) Ottawa Annual Golf Day. This was another success reinforcing our excellent relationships with the MPI & Ottawa meetings community. Brent Beatty along with four (4) other Edmonton partners participated in the 2009 Incentiveworks show in Toronto on August 24 - 27. Due to economic conditions the overall attendance was down approximately 20% but traffic was strong. 105 delegates stopped by our booth to receive information and we also utilized this opportunity to signup planners at the booth for MeetingsEasy. Many were hesitant to sign up on the floor but we distributed a large quantity of cards and educated planners on this new tool In September, Brent Beatty along with Glenn Duncan, Crystal DeCosta and Mike Miller joined forces with ten (10) of our partners for the first ever LIVE Canada CTC event on September 9th. This event was a live event between 6 North American cities on September 9th (in Washington, DC, New York, Dallas, Minneapolis and San Francisco) and on September 8th in London England. Over 500 potential clients were on hand via satellite for a networking event focused on educating clients on Canada culminating with a Game show format program hosted by "Colin Mochrie (Who’s Line is That) . The end winner (based on Canadian Trivia) won a trip for two to Vancouver for the 2010 Olympics.
