2009 US Nationals - Lanier, Georgia
As the Legend Cars of Alberta season
came to a close three of our series champions made the long trip to
Lanier, Georgia for US Nationals. Ira Laughy, Adam Gilbert and
Dexter Hucal all joined up with Chase Pistone Racing for the weekend
and joined over 220 other Legends racers from across the United
States and Canada for three days of incredible racing. Day one
consisted of practice only, each division was given six practice
sessions throughout the day. This would be the only practice
available to the drivers for the whole weekend. Day two was
qualifying, heat races and the race of Champions. The
competition throughout each division was incredibly close. Ira and
Adam both qualified directly into the A-Main on time, Dexter had a
great qualifying time but would have to use his provisional to get
into his A-Main. Ira and Adam both raced in the race of champions on
Friday night, this is a race for state or regional champions only
and starting positions were by pea pick. Ira and Adam both had great
races, Ira started dead last in his race and ended up finishing in
the fourth position. Saturday was "Champions Day", all of the main
events would be run starting with the "C-Mains", then the "B-Mains"
then finally the "A-Mains which would start 30 cars in each
division. Dexter did an awesome job in his "B-Main" getting valuable
track time knowing that he was locked into the Young Lions A-Main.
The A-Main for Dexter was not as good however, Dex got caught up in
a big wreck coming out of turn two, he had no-where to go and got
caught up in it, which bent the car enough that it ended his night.
Adam raced in the Semi-Pro A main and was having a great race, he
had moved up from his 20th starting position to as high as 13th
place when he got spun in turn 1. This would prove to be the end of
the night for Adam as he developed an engine leak and had to bring
it into the pits. Ira would start in the 9th position in the Masters
A-Main and had a very good race going, he had moved himself up to
the 6th position with only a few laps to go only to lose three spots
on a restart with three to go moving him back down to 9th position.
The Nationals was an incredible event
with unbelievable racing in every division. It was a great
experience and something all three of the guys really enjoyed. Once
you have been to a National event, you want to keep going back for
more.

2009 Man of the Year Award
At the 2009 Legends Year End Banquet,
Legend Cars of Alberta gives out a Legend Man of the Year Award. And
this year to a standing ovation it was proudly given to Mike
Degraaff who has been an INEX Official for the last 7 Years. What
made this Award so very special was the fact that besides doing an
outstanding job as a INEX Official Mike has had to battle cancer.
Every day is a battle and Mike’s determination and never say quit
attitude is something that is admired by everyone who knows him. One
thing is for certain and that is that every race team in the series
is pulling for Mike and every person at the Awards Banquet is
pulling for Mike and his Family. |

Mike and Ike's Dirt
Series
The 2009 Mike & Ike's Dirt
Series is in the books and thanks to the hard work of
#12 Rick Blanchette it was an overwhelming success. 2009
saw 4 races in 2 cities and car counts of 12 to16
racers. And on July 18th for the 1st time ever the Mac’s
Legend Racing Series held 2 races on the same night.
Rocky Mountain Raceway in Aldersyde saw 14 Legend racers
do battle on the Dirt, while in Fort Saskatchewan 18
more Legend racers were doing battle on the Road Course.
In 2010 you can expect 6
races in 2 possibly 3 cities, more prize money, more
racers and “ More Fun “. As Rick says Asphalt is fun,
but Dirt is more Fun. And every racer should at least
one time "DO DIRT".
Stayed tuned for
announcements from the Mike & Ike's Dirt Series. |

# 32 Adam Gilbert has a new ride for
2010. Owen & Adam purchased a brand new #1934 Ford Coupe and had
Chase Pistone set the racecar up. Adam debut for the new car was the
Legend Asphalt Nationals and Adam will do the Legend Winter
Nationals in Florida in January before bringing the car home. The
#32 Team is looking for big things with the new racecar as Adam
moves up to the Pro Division in 2010.

The # 81 Father & son team of Danny &
Dex Hucal sent us a picture of Dex’s ride at the Asphalt Nationals.
Dex was in a Chase Pistone prepared racecar. Dan tells us he and Dex
will also race in Florida in January. Dan & Dex want to get Dex as
much seat time as possible as Dex will either run for the 2010 Semi
Pro Championship although a move to the Pro Division may be in the
cards. Stay Tuned

and the local Legend Dealer are in the final stages of ordering a
new Legend racecar for 2010.
It would be Great to have Danny back
