July - 2007

First stage of the Macs Chase format comes to a close;

Tight battles and close racing have always been a guarantee in the Macs Convenience Stores Legends Series, add in the "Chase for the Macs Cup" format and now you have completed the ingredients for Ultimate Excitement! In all 3 Divisions there was a tie for 3rd and 4th place, with 5th place in each only single digits away. WOW!

For the Semi-Pro's Curtis Blanchette is in with his impressive dominance and closely behind is a focused Jody Archer, Randy Peppler made it in with 2 good performances before his hard wreck that left him out of the 3rd and deciding race, Kelly Benny back after a year off tied for third to get in.

For the Masters it was Darrell Buckingham, Dave Nehring, Tom Overholt and Brian Mario making it in to the Chase and when you have these 4 hard charging racers heading for the same title of Champion it will make for one of the best points races anywhere. It is tough to decide which is a better seat, in a Legends car racing or in the bleachers with a Froster watching.

The Pro Legends Division is one of the toughest Divisions in any Saturday Night Racing Series. The speed and consistency Ira Laughy has always shown has his team in, Rick Blanchette who is always fast is in, Shawn Holland and Brent Hackle also charged their way in with well prepared cars and smooth runs.

If you thought this excitement was big you need to attend the Froster 50 at the Auto Clearing Motor Speedway in Saskatoon on August 11th where every Team outside of the top four in each division has one last chance via a heat race to get in by winning that last chance race and being the 5th of five that make The Chase in each Division. These last chance races are going to be BIG! There are so many fast guys that are on the outside of the top 4 it really represents how tough the legends competition is. One little slip up or a little bad luck can and has put some on the outside looking in.

In the Semi-Pro class Bill Busby, Jason Johnstone and Aaron Friend who just barely missed out will put on a great race with the rest of the Semi Pro's also in hot pursuit of the final Chase position. In the Masters Division Grant McDonald missed out by 6 points and is looking for another shot. Pro Division Best Pals Larry Carlson and Hugh Williamson will battle for that final spot with fellow hot shoes Rick Walls, Jarrod Schaufert and Dave McKean going for the same final transfer position. Can you say "Buckle up Buttercup"

Format for the WILDCARD Positions for the Chase for each class competing for the Mac’s Cup.

The four top points in each class from the best two of the three races May 26th, June 9th and July 14th are locked into the Chase.

There is one WILDCARD position in each class which after a great deal of thought we have decided will be filled as follows:

As the Mac’s Froster 50 is the only true Mac’s Sponsored race within the Chase it is only fitting that the largest event also contain the element to choose the winner of the Wildcard spot for each class.

We will do this in a Class specific heat race at the Froster 50 in Saskatoon on August 11th. So all the Pros’ will compete in a heat race, and the Semi’s and Master’s each in their own.

Based on the finishing order of those heat races the first finisher not already locked in will have the option to accept the Wildcard (knowing he or she will make the commitment to compete in the remaining Chase events) If he or she declines the driver in the next position will be awarded the same opportunity. By doing so we guarantee a winner in each class. Those five will then be set to compete in the final half of the season and the Chase with the Froster 50 Main being the start.

As in years past the starting position of the Main is not effected by performance in the heat races, however under this format they certainly now have a purpose and an outcome that will effect who wins these Wild Card spot in each class. The starting position in the Main is straight up qualifying as it has been from the start of this the 7th Annual Mac’s Froster 50.

And who does he sign only "Canadian Country Music and Juno nominated recording artist Aaron Pritchett", WOW!

Dave had the #15 on display in Edmonton at a Aaron Pritchett concert and Dave said the racecar was a hit.

Dave is quick to add that the following New Sponsors for 2007:

Kelly Benny - #91 Semi-Pro

Kelly Benny bought his NEW 1934 Ford Sedan Legend racecar in the Spring of 2005, with high expectations, but work forced him to park his brand new racecar for 2 years.

Now in 2007 Kelly along with Crew Chief Mark Halpin are back racing and Kelly plans on doing all the races in 2007.

Each races see Kelly and Mark getting the # 91 faster, and it won’t be long before Kelly has a couple wins under his belt. Its good to see Kelly back racing, as Kelly is a Terrific addition to the Series

Every Year Mac’s Convenience Stores uses the Legend Renegade Racing School to say Thanks to the Many Sponsors who Support the Mac’s Racing & Mac’s Motorsport race teams.

The 2007 School again put lots of smiles on the Sponsors faces. New for this year was the Instructors, instead of using Renegade Racing School Instructors we used Kim Trowbridge from Mac’s along with Craig Ball, Brent Hackl, Don Fergan & Ira Laughy all Mac’s Sponsored racers. And a Great time was had by all.
