2007 Froster 50 a Huge Success!

30 Drivers made the trip out to Saskatoon for the 2007 edition of the Mac's Froster 50. The drivers that made the trip were treated to a beautifully sunny day and perfect temperatures for racing. The day got started with displays at a number of Mac's Convenience Stores around Saskatoon. The racers then made their way out to Auto Clearing Motorspeedway to get set up for the days racing activities and to enjoy a Subway sandwich lunch hosted by Mac's.

Once lunch was over the on-track activities got going with practice sessions throughout the afternoon. Once again the drivers enjoyed a Legends only practice session for 2 hours before the gates opened up for the mini stocks. In the Pro class the fastest guy in practice was Rick Blanchette, who put down some very fast times. In Semi-Pro Aaron Freind, Curtis Blanchette and Randy Peppler all took turns putting down the fast times and in the Masters category things were really tight with Brian Mario, Darrell Buckingham, Tom Overholt and Dave Nehring taking turns with the fastest lap.

The Legends Pit Lane for the Froster 50

It was Brent Hackl getting the low time in Qualifying for the Pro Class with Tom Overholt and Curtis Blanchette getting fast time in Master and Semi Pro respectively.

The heat races this year were unique in that the first driver to cross the finish line that was not already qualified for the Chase for the Mac's Cup would get the fifth and final spot. The 3 spots were filled by Hugh Williamson in Pro, Aaron Freind in Semi Pro and Grant MacDonald in Masters, well done guys.

2007 Mac's Froster 50 Main Event

For the second year in a row Ira Laughy was able to win the prestigious 133 lap Froster 50. Starting from the outside pole, Ira was able to get the lead from Brent Hackl on the first lap and was able to hold the lead throughout the race taking home the overall and Pro win. In Masters is was Darrell Buckingham taking home the win after a good battle with Tom Overholt and in the Semi Pro class Curtis Blanchette took home another win, once again showing why he will be racing in the Pro class next season. The race was quite eventful with eight caution periods. There were a few wrecks that took a few guys like Kelly Benny, Jody Archer and Doug Bender out of the race then Aaron Freind had a motor let go which ended his night as well.

Monster Energy 50 -

Medicine Hat Raceway

The next race on the Legend Cars of Alberta schedule and the fifth race in The Chase for the Mac's Cup is this upcoming weekend, August 25, 2007 at the Medicine Hat Raceway in Medicine Hat Alberta. We always have great races in Medicine Hat on the flat, smooth paperclip of an oval there and this weekend will be more of the same.

Coming off of the Froster 50 last weekend in Saskatoon the championship battles for the Mac's Cup are really starting to heat up. Coming into this weekend Curtis Blanchette in the #14 car leads the Semi-Pro class, Darrell Buckingham in the #H20 car comes in as the Masters points leader and Ira Laughy in the #38 heads to the Hat with the points lead in the Pro Class.

Bits from the Pits

A Special Thanks to Dick Murray from Dicks Collectables as the #1 Dick Collectables which was Scheduled to be driven in the Froster 50 by Dave Piket was given to the of #4 Larry Carlson to drive. Larry's engine broke in practice and Larry was able to race in the Froster 50 when the #1 Dicks Collectables Legend Cars of Alberta racecar was loaned to Larry for the race. Larry did a great job in the car given the fact that he did not get to practice in it.

In July Gary Acheson from Sarasota Homes in St Albert took delivery of a brand new 1937 Chev Sedan, that will next be seen in Wetaskiwin Sept 8th, and will be driven by Chris Timer. The car will run #67 and will be Sponsored by Sarasota Homes. There is a good chance that a 2nd car may be ordered for the 2008 racing season. Stay Tuned
