2008 Legends Racing Meeting - Red Deer

It looks like January 19th is as good a date as any to get together to kick off the 2008 Legend Racing Season with a meeting at the Holiday Inn on 67st. in Red Deer at 10:00 am. I will be putting together an agenda in advance of the meeting and will distribute the meeting agenda to everyone a few days prior to the meeting. On the agenda will include Geoff Winter (INEX) speaking to a number of tech and INEX related items, Wayne Miller (Legend Cars of Alberta) will be presenting on behalf of the dealership including the 2008 tentative schedule, sponsor news etc. and Ron Thompson (Mac's) will be presenting on behalf of Mac's Convenience Stores, the Chase for the Mac's Cup etc.

If there are any specific items you would like discussed please send them along in advance so we can add them to the agenda and we can all be prepared for the discussions. If you are going to forward an agenda item or feel there is a problem or issue with how things are currently being done, please be ready to offer a solution, don't just throw things out there to see what might happen, please.

Some items that have been put forward for the agenda already include:

1. Dirt races (Yes or No) and if so, how many, where and who is committed to going and racing them
2. Heat Race Format - Some have expressed interest in revising the heat race format so that Pros, Semi-Pros and Masters each have their own heat race. Currently we mix the groups based on qualifying times with an invert in the first heat race and straight up the second.
3. Payout Format - Should we keep it as is or should all of the racers get an equal amount at the end of the night?
4. Inversion (We went to a 1 - 6 inversion last season, are guys happy with it?) For those who are new, the driver who gets the fast time in qualifying rolls a dice, whichever number comes up on the dice is the number of positions that are inverted. If they roll a 1 then there is no invert, if they roll a 6 then we invert the top 6. I personally thought it went really good last season but we should discuss it.
5. Schedule

These meetings are only as good as the group that attends so lets all try and make it out to the meeting this year. Last year we had some great discussion and voted on a number of items. Lets kick the 2008 season off the right way with a good, positive and constructive meeting.

Cheers and hope to see you there,

Ira Laughy

Bits from the Pits

Continuation of Silly Season:

Bob Lailey sold his #77 car to Gord Lair of Edmonton who changed it to #123 but never raced it, now Gord has sold the #123 to Rob Armour who will change the number to #44. Gary Acheson will use #67 for Chris Thimer which was the old number of Tim Johnson. Larry Kana who raced the #21 has sold it to Blake Erb who will retain the #21. Ira Laughy who started his Legends racing career with the #17 then added a second racecar to his team and raced it using the #38 will be going back to using the #17. Stay tuned for more changes to come.

#34 - Mike "Sting" Rae

Word has it that Mike "Sting" Rae will actually see some racing in 2008.

The racecar will carry the Dent Clinic logo in 2008, but word is it may also be Sponsored by his Employer

Race Track RV in 2008. Mike also tell us his 14 year old son Cariton may also see a race in 2008

Blake Erb becomes a Legends Racer

Blake Erb from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan becomes the 3rd new Legend racer from Saskatoon, joining #77 Jason Jessiman and #83 Jason Wilkie. As can be seen in the picture Blake is all smiles as he receives a congratulations from Larry Kana. Blakes Dad will be the crew chief in 2007 as they chase the Semi-Pro rookie of the year title.

#84 Mathew Mort has traded the FedEX/Kinko’s Sponsorship for In Source. Mathew also tells us that his Dad may do a race or 2 in 2008.

Former Champions Car for 2008

The #1 Dick Collectables/Legend Cars of Alberta racecar will have a variety of Drivers throughout the 2008 racing season.

Randy Thompson will drive the car in several races in 2008, Craig Ball might see a race or two in 2008 and perhaps another former champion Gary Lister may see a race or two in the #1 car. A former Masters Champ, Larry Kana will race the car in two races with crew help from former driver/owner #99 Gord Zurawell.
