Doritos 50 - August 16, 2008
The Chase for the Mac's Cup resumes this upcoming weekend with the "Doritos 50" at Auto Clearing Motorspeedway in Saskatoon. August 16th is the 6th race in the 2008 "Chase for the Mac’s Cup" and this race is shaping up to be a Great one as we expect over 30 racers. The race in Saskatoon will set the field for the final two races in the Chase. Those races are Medicine Hat on August 31st and Race City in Calgary on September 20th. The top 5 racers in each division plus a wild card will battle it out in the final 2 races to see who will win the "Chase for the Mac’s Cup" and be crowned the 2008 Mac Champions. There are tight battles in all three divisions as we get ready to set the stage for the Chase. The racers will drop their worst place finish and the top 5 will be guaranteed a spot in the Chase. There will be one "Wild Card" spot up for grabs at the "Monster 50" in Medicine Hat in each class as well, bringing the total for each class up to six.

A new racer in the Legend series this year is a racer that came to Legends from the Karting ranks. Adam Gilbert is a very experienced racer who used to race Karts at the same tracks as Ira Laughy and Randy Thompson.
Adam and his Dad Owen have made a deal with Brian "Pops" MacKinnon and are racing the #5A Legend racecar. Adam and his Dad are from Nisku and are another father and son team that are quickly learning how to race Legends. Hugh Williamson, Larry Carlson & Brian Mario have all been giving Owen and Adam advice on how to set the Legend racecar up and Adam is showing that he is a quick learner as he has been continually improving all season. They bent the car up a bit in Wetaskiwin last weekend but they assured us they would be ready for the "Doritos 50" this weekend. |

A welcome addition has been first year racer #20 Bob Rattai who bought his legend racecar from Grant Beck. Grant has become the Crew Chief for Bob. Bob’s company Tempo Electric is the Major Sponsor and the Associate Sponsors are Serenity Funeral Service/Osman Auctions/Cars RV & Marine/Cars. Bob is using the racing as a means to get family and friends together and so far it has been very successful. As Bob pointed out for the August 16th race in Saskatoon 4 families from Winnipeg & 4 families from Edmonton are coming to Saskatoon to Cheer Bob on. As Bob says the guys go to the track and the ladies do some socializing with the other families as well as a little shopping. Then, after the races, a little socializing and drinking, and a good time is had by all
And in the end Legends may benefit from a few more new racers |

| Bits from the Pits:
Collin Friend has sold his #55 Legend racecar to Mike Fairley who lives in Calgary. Mike has done lots of racing over the years but the last time he was in a racecar was about 15 years ago. Mike did about 3 Legend Racing Schools over the last couple years and thanks to his former employer Circle B trailers has been hooked ever since. Collin hated to give up racing , but some health issues had made it difficult for him to run those 50 Lap Mains, so he sold the racecar and will Crew Chief for his son Aaron who is tearing it up this season. Mike made his debut this past weekend in Wetaskiwin and did well. |
Gary Miller who is a Legend in the Sprint car racing , is using Legends as a spring board for his son Mark to learn racing and eventually get into the ARCA Late Model Racing. Gary’s son Mark has being racing the #02 Legend racecar out of Ken Websters/Alta Gas/Kew Services legend car stable. And every so often Gary himself jumps in the # 00 Legend racecar which is also on of Ken Webster’s racecars. Gary feels that Legends is a perfect place for Mark to learn the racing game, and who could disagree with that statement. |
Jason Johnstone has sold his #2 Legend racecar to Lance Tymko from Fort Saskatchewan, Albert and Lance made his Legend debut this past weekend in Wetaskiwin.
Lance already has a nickname which is "Lead foot” and his 2 Main Sponsors are Go Mini’s which is his Storage Container company and Lorelle Trucking which is his trucking Company. |

After 2 years away from the Drivers seat Dave "The Kid"Kindopp mad his return to the drivers seat June 21st in Wetaskiwin driving the #1 Dicks Collectables/Legend Cars of Alberta racecar.
Those who watched the race said it look like Dave had never missed a race as he was low qualifier with a 14:42 and won both his heat races. Dave also led the most laps in the A Main and only an unfortunate tangle with lapped traffic which caused Dave to miss having a clean sweep of the evening.
That being said watch for Dave to return to the seat of the #1 Legend racecar August 23rd in Calgary or September 13th in Wetaskiwin.
Welcome Back Dave! |
