Froster 50 and Chase for the
Mac's Cup To say that the
Chase for the Mac's Cup and the Froster 50 were a success would be a
huge understatement. The Chase format provided a ton of excitement
for the drivers and the Froster 50 was a hugely successful event
providing outstanding racing for the fans at a first class racing
facility in Saskatoon, the
Auto Clearing Motor Speedway.
The Froster 50 race weekend started
with the Legends racers showing up on Friday for numerous displays
throughout Saskatoon at various Mac's Convenience Stores. Later that
night we all congregated at the Auto Clearing Motor Speedway to put
the cars on display, do give-aways and sign autographs. |

|
Race-Day morning brought a
beautiful day and a whole lot of practice for the racers.
Unfortunately there were some pretty big wrecks in practice that
took out some very good cars, the Pro cars of #22 Rick Walls, #45
Jarrod Shaufert and the #71 of Steve Mathison got the brunt of it.
The accident prompted a bit of musical racing seats as Jarrod moved to the #1
car being driven by Craig Ball with Craig then moving to the 10oz car.
Once practice was complete and everyone had
their cars tweaked we moved to qualifying where it was clear that everyone had
stepped up their game and put down some pretty fast times. For a complete list
of qualifying times click
here, the top three were the #38 of Ira Laughy, the #4
of Larry Carlson and then the #01 of Randy Thompson.
|
| The heat races provided some pretty neat racing
as the fans got to pick the winning position. This was done to take the pressure
off of winning the heat races as they did not count towards our starting spots
for the main, they were for pride only. The Froster 50 consisted of 137 laps of racing
with 30 cars on the track. The top 26 were in based on qualifying times and the
final 4 spots were made up of the top 4 finishers in the "B" Main. The drivers
would complete 67 laps then come in to re-fuel then back out for the final 70 in
the same order they came in.
After 137 laps of good
hard racing that saw lap times come down to all new lows the #38
Mac's Racing Team of Ira and Carolynne Laughy capped off 4 years of
racing Legends without a main event victory by bringing the
Seattle's Best Coffee, M&M's, Mars Candies, Wrigley's Gum, Praxair,
Dynamotive Auto Service, MyClients.ca car home in first place. |

2006 Froster 50 Feature & Pro Champs |
|
|
This marked the first time this season that
someone was able to beat the overall Mac's Cup Champion Randy Thompson to the
Checkers. Ira was over the moon with this win and couldn't have been happier to
do it in front of his parents, family, friends and in front of his extended
Mac's family who were all in attendance.
The racing was fast and furious as one would
expect at such a prestigious event but it is consistency that wins championships
and this could not be more true for the Mac's Cup Champions, Randy Thompson got
2 wins and a second place finish to capture the title and BJ Mario and Greg
McDonald showed similar consistency in bringing home the big prize in the
Masters and Semi-Pro divisions respectively.
Winning the Froster 50 in the Masters category
was Dave Neiring in the #39 Heartland Homes, Hawthorne Homes,
Unique Neon, RT Controls, Dynamic Molded Products car.
In Semi-Pro it was all Grant McDonald in the #89
Parkland Agri Services, Roundup WeatherMax, Dekalb car winning both
the Froster 50 and the Mac's Cup.

MyLaps.com
For those of you that don't know about MyLaps.com
it is well worth taking a look at. We are very fortunate to have such a good
group of people looking after our timing system and having them take the time to
upload all of the transponder data to this website. |
|
You need your transponder number to create a user
account. Once you have your account, username and password you will have access
to all of your timing data for the race day. You can also compare it to other
cars so you can see how your competition is doing as well.
This is another great way to get more value out
of the money you spent on the transponder and timing fees. |
