2006 Legends Cars of Alberta Banquet

Legends Cars of Alberta thanks all of the drivers, spouses, crew members, sponsors and partners that came to the banquet this year.

We would like to congratulate all of our series champions as well as those who were voted as champions by their peers.

Legends Racer and Man of the Year

Rick Walls was not not only picked as Legend Racer of the Year by his peers, he was also was Legend man of the Year. All of the Legends racers will tell you that the first person at your car to lend a hand when things go wrong is Rick Walls. Rick has been racing Legends for a long time and never hesitates to share his knowledge with you or lend a helping hand or part when needed. Rick is also a very tough competitor on the race track and has won his share of races over the years.

Congratulations from all of us Rick, well deserved!

2006 Legends Award Winners

This years award recipients were:

Hard Charger of the Year and Most Improved Pro- Larry Carlson #4

Larry Carlson in his new #4 car had a great year. Larry was always at the front running for wins in 2006 and is a very deserving Hard Charger of the Year and Most Improved Pro. Look out for Larry in 2007!

Crew Chief of the Year - Mark Leveack #39

If you were ever going to look around the pits for the team that looked like they were having the most fun and going fast at the same time you would see the #39 team. Not only are Mark and Dave having fun but they are doing well. The #39 team has consistently gotten better each season and have been in the championship hunt the last couple of seasons. Mark obviously keeps his car in top running form and is also very willing to help others down pit road when they need it. It was Marks prowness as a Crew Chief that helped Dave win 5 Master Races in 2006 and tied #12 Rick Blanchette for the 2006 Swifty’s ESSO Low Qualifier Jacket.

Rookie of the Year - Bill Busby #9

Bill had a great year in 2006 using what he could from his previous racing experience to guide his Legends car in the Semi-Pro class. Bill steadily improved all season and will be front runner and racing for a Semi-Pro championship in 2007. Bill competed in all the 2006 races and finished 2nd in both the NAPA Auto Parts Northern Series & NAPA Auto Parts Touring Series as well as 3rd in the 2006 Chase for the Mac’s Cup.

Most Improved Semi-Pro -  Curtis Blanchette #14

Curtis is in his second season racing Legends and his experience is really starting to show. Curtis continually finished higher and higher up the order all season. He often qualified for the A-Mains and when he didn't he would do well enough in the B-Main to move to the A-Main. Curtis will be building on this season in 2007 and will be giving Bill a run for his money for the Semi-Pro championship!

Most Improved Masters - Dave Nehring #39

Dave has just finished his fourth year in Legends and is no longer content with just racing, he is always in the hunt for overall heat wins and Masters main wins every weekend. Dave and Mark have made huge strides in their racing program and are a force every weekend. Look for them to run the other Masters racers hard in 2007 as they chase the championship in 2007. Dave won 5 Masters Features in 2006 including the Froster 50!

Hard Luck Award - Tom Overholt #76

The only thing worse than winning this award is winning it twice. We are all thankful that Tom was able to accept this award at the banquet after witnessing his accident in Calgary early in the season. Tom is feeling much better now and is looking at racing again in 2007. We are looking forward to having you back out on the track with us Tom!

Best Looking Legends Race Car and Team - Ira Laughy #38

There are those that believe that a race car needs to look good and go fast, that could not be more true of the #38 and the Mac's Racing Team in 2007. They took home the big prize at the Froster 50 and looked good doing it!
