Swifty's ESSO

The 2007 Chase for the Mac’s Cup will be an Eight Race Series

The 2007 Mac’s Chase Series will be an eight race series with races at the following tracks: 4 Races in Calgary, 2 in Saskatoon, 1 in Medicine Hat and 1 in Wetaskiwin.

Schedule permitting all chase races will have a 50 lap Main. The exception to this format of course is the Froster 50 which will remain as 50 MILE Race.

The First four races set up the Chase, these are:

May 26th The Seattle’s Best Coffee 50 in Calgary
June 9th The Doritos 50 in Saskatoon
June 30th The Milk 2 Go 50 in Calgary
July 14th The M&M’s 50 in Calgary

From those results the top 4 drivers + one wild card in each class will compete for the 2007 Mac’s Cup.

The first four races are normal payouts for all.

You will be allowed to drop one of the eight races in this years Chase.

The final four races will determine the Champions in each Class:

August 11th The Mac’s Froster 50 in Saskatoon
August 25th The Tropicana Twister 50 in Medicine Hat
September 8th The Twizzler’s 50 in Wetaskiwin
September 30th The Wrigley’s Inferno 50 in Calgary

The Main Event Sponsors of each of the Chase races will be providing the top three finishers with an additional award at the conclusion of each of these events.

Those 5 drivers start the second half of the Chase will have a separate points scoring system and basically start the second half with ZERO points to level the field between them, allowing all five an equal shot at the Cup. It truly becomes a four race shoot out for those five drivers in each class.

The Mac’s Froster 50 is the start of the final leg of the 2007 Chase with 5 drivers in each Class competing for the Cup. This does not mean that the rest of you stay home as there is an additional $500 being split by the top three finishers in the final three races and the points fund has been boosted by almost $2,000 for those not in the Chase. So attendance and points finish does matter.

The Froster 50 as the first of the four Chase Races will have a big purse, as it did last year.

So it should be an exciting format and everyone has a shot at some extra dollars in the Chase.

The Legend racers will be out in force for the 2007 Auto Value World of Wheels in Calgary. The racers want to put on a good display for their new Sponsor Auto Value. Come down to the show and check out the Legends display and take a look at all of the great cars that will be on display.

Bits From The Pits

Just like every major racing series, The Legends series has its own "Silly Season". Here are a few of the moves that are happening for the 2007 season.

Randy Peppler who drove the Grant Beck owned #16 goes to the #86 owned by Greg McTavish, the #30 owned by Darrell Hayley was bought by Phil Barata out of Airdrie, the #95 owned by Brent Tunal was sold to Legends, and then Legends sold it to Tom Overholt and it now becomes the #76, Doug Bender and Don HyKaway bought the #6 from Al Brown and will change to #23, Al Brown bought the a 34 Ford Coupe and will still run the #6, Collin Friend takes the #55 from Aaron friend and will put the #29 on the 10oz car purchased from Legend Cars of Alberta. Trent Guest sells the #32 & #62 to Harvey & Rob Tams (but will still drive when he isn’t racing his CASCAR). And Jason Johnstone will vacate the #2 and it will be now driven by his partner Aaron Schafert and Jason will drive the #1.

Whew and we still have 3 months till race day.

It was great to see Dave Kindopp at the meeting in Red Deer on Saturday. Car owner Wayne Miller was seen talking to his ex driver and word has it that Dave is feeling great and the doctors have given him the green light but have asked him to be cautious. Could we see Dave in a Legend racecar doing a race or two in 2007? Dave is pictured in the photo to the right as the winning crew chief for Randy Thompson in '06. Dave is a winner behind the wheel and behind the wrenches.

#45 Jarrod Schaufert is hard at work getting the racecar ready for a Championship run in 2007. The motor is at Vass Performance Cycle having Willie perform his magic, and the body is at Hot Rods by Adam getting a trick new paint scheme. Wayne sys the car will have all new Graphics as they are set to debut 2 new Sponsors Pool Tables Direct & Car Lifts .ca, these Sponsors will join Rip Cord Adventure Products , Dick Collectables & Legend Cars of Alberta in 2007.

#2 Jason Johnstone tells us his racecar will have a brand new 37 Ford Sedan Body, and has a bought a XJ200 motor that is at Vass Performance Cycle being totally freshened. Jason says the #2 car will be a rolling billboard for the Legend Cars of Alberta Dealership. The #2 car will get the graphic treatment that used to adorn the #45 Legend racecar.

#50 Danny Hinds tells us he's ready to make a Championship run in 2007. His car has being rebuilt over the winter including a new body, fresh graphics, and a freshened motor. With Danny’s almost retired Status 2007 could be the year he repeats as a Masters Champion. Word in the pits is the door used to say almost 50, and now it say almost 60.
