John Thomas Back for 2008

We could not be happier to announce the return of one of our racers for the 2008 season. John Thomas is going to be returning to the race track after two years of recovery from a serious motorcycle accident. John was a regular competitor in the Masters Series in 2004 and 2005 then in the spring of 2006, just before race season John was involved in a serious motorcycle accident. John spent an extended period of time in and out of the hospital recovering from his life threatening injuries.

John made a brief return to racing last season for one race, the Froster 50 and has been seen hanging out at the track from time to time but 2008 looks to be the official year of the come back and we can not wait to see John back at the track and racing again on a regular basis. It is easy to spot John at the track, he is usually the guy that looks and sounds like he is having the most fun. Welcome back John!

2008 Legends Racing Meeting - Red Deer

It looks like January 19th is as good a date as any to get together to kick off the 2008 Legend Racing Season with a meeting at the Holiday Inn on 67st. in Red Deer at 10:00 am. I will be putting together an agenda in advance of the meeting and will distribute the meeting agenda to everyone a few days prior to the meeting. On the agenda will include Geoff Winter (INEX) speaking to a number of tech and INEX related items, Wayne Miller (Legend Cars of Alberta) will be presenting on behalf of the dealership including the 2008 tentative schedule, sponsor news etc. and Ron Thompson (Mac's) will be presenting on behalf of Mac's Convenience Stores, the Chase for the Mac's Cup etc.

If there are any specific items you would like discussed please send them along in advance so we can add them to the agenda and we can all be prepared for the discussions. If you are going to forward an agenda item or feel there is a problem or issue with how things are currently being done, please be ready to offer a solution, don't just throw things out there to see what might happen, please.

Some items that have been put forward for the agenda already include:

1. Dirt races (Yes or No) and if so, how many, where and who is committed to going and racing them
2. Heat Race Format - Some have expressed interest in revising the heat race format so that Pros, Semi-Pros and Masters each have their own heat race. Currently we mix the groups based on qualifying times with an invert in the first heat race and straight up the second.
3. Payout Format - Should we keep it as is or should all of the racers get an equal amount at the end of the night?
4. Inversion (We went to a 1 - 6 inversion last season, are guys happy with it?) For those who are new, the driver who gets the fast time in qualifying rolls a dice, whichever number comes up on the dice is the number of positions that are inverted. If they roll a 1 then there is no invert, if they roll a 6 then we invert the top 6. I personally thought it went really good last season but we should discuss it.
5. Schedule

These meetings are only as good as the group that attends so lets all try and make it out to the meeting this year. Last year we had some great discussion and voted on a number of items. Lets kick the 2008 season off the right way with a good, positive and constructive meeting.

Cheers and hope to see you there,

Ira Laughy
