2005 Season in Full Swing
The 2005 Legends Cars of Alberta racing season is in full swing now. The race teams have raced 4 times so far with two races in Wetaskiwin and two races in Calgary. So far the weather has been great and we have been able to get all of our races in.
The season opener in Wetaskiwin saw a record number of cars show up for a race in Wetaskiwin with 29 cars.

The racing was very close with the guys putting on a great show. Randy Thompson held off Rick Walls for the feature win. Darryl Buckingham claimed the win in Masters with Brent Tunall coming home first in Semi-Pro.
The next week in Calgary saw the Legends racers in Calgary for the first race in the Mac's Calgary Championship and once again the racing was great. The night got off to a bit of a rough start as Ira Laughy in the #17 car and Tim Johnson in the #67 car got together and made the newspaper in the process.

Once the carnage was cleaned up the guys got back to racing and put on a great show. The racing at the front with Rick Walls, Brent Hackl, Randy Thompson, Hugh Williamson and Darryl Buckingham was awesome with Rick taking the win. Darryl Buckingham took the victory in Masters with Kelly Benny taking the win in Semi-Pro.

The third race weekend of the season was May 28th and back in Wetaskiwin with a big number of cars. The racing was as tight as it has ever been and the guys put on a great show. We did end up with our first and hopefully last roll-over of the season which saw Larry Carlson in the #4 car go for a flip. Larry was fine and they somehow managed to get it all back together and raced the next week in Calgary.

The track crew in Wetaskiwin got the mess cleaned up and the Legends Main was a very exciting race. Darryl Buckingham took the win from Pole with Rick Walls and Dave Kindopp right behind him. The racing through the whole pack was very tight and competitive which was also evident in the qualifying times. It is a good thing we have a timing system because without it there would be a lot of guys with the same time, they had to go to the thousandth in some cases to determine qualifying order.

The fourth race of the season was back in Calgary for the second Mac's Calgary race. The weather was a bit gloomy which kept some people away but we ended up racing and had a great, clean race. The Legends went 36 of 40 laps without a caution then clean again to the end. When all was said and done the quick qualifier was the winner with Dave Kindopp taking the honours. Once again Darryl Buckingham took the win in Masters and Kelly Benny took his second Semi-Pro win of the season.
Next Race - Medicine Hat
This upcoming weekend the Legends Cars of Alberta will be racing in Medicine Hat. For those who have never been there it is worth the trip, the 1/3 mile low-banked race track is very fun and the crowd is always great.
Help Needed!
We are still looking for Volunteers to help out with the Timing System. Please contact Larry Carlson if you or someone you know is interested.

Bits from the Pits
For those who have been racing for a couple of years and wondering where Danny Meier has been you will see him in his new '34 Ford Coupe this weekend in Medicine Hat. Danny will be running a new number as well, he will be the #90 car.
Danny sold the #32 car to Trent Guest who is from Medicine Hat as well and will be racing this weekend in his new car. Trent has been racing mini stocks in Medicine Hat.
Look for the Medicine Hat racers to put on a good show for their hometown fans this weekend! |
Grant McDonald has also purchased a new Legends Race car. Grant has done a couple of schools and rentals and has now made the leap into car ownership. Good Luck Grant!
Ken Webster has added to his fleet of cars now that he has purchased the #00 and #33 cars from Ken Hamilton. Ken now has 5 cars in his stable. Rumor has it that the cars are all going to be painted and decaled in the near future with the numbers, 01, 02, 03, 04 and 05. Look for upcoming announcements on drivers.

Legends Tech Section - By Geoff Winter and the INEX Tech Team and Timing Personnel
And a tech tip for renters, Ensure that your car meets the INEX tech requirements including the minimum weight, especially if you're a little guy. Also Wayne has advised me of a potential tire shortage. Please do yourself, the dealer and the tech guys a favour. If you are going to need tires ORDER them in TIME. And, the minimum width (thickness) for jam nuts is 1/4", 0.250" ( I don't know what that is in Celsius) and has been for some time. As an aside, the Jam Nut Fund did miserably this last race. Thanks guys. Just dispel an ugly rumour, I didn't bring Frank into tech just because he can easily spot stuff under your cars.
Geoff
The "Consistency" award this week goes to Rick Blanchette (12). Both his Qualifying Times were identical in Wetaskiwin May 28, at 14.860. Way to go Rick! Fastest lap time in the A Main was nailed down by Dave Kindopp (45), at 14.469 sec. I think he may have been going for the lead?? Special thanks to the crew from Car #50 who helped us haul the Timing Equipment up to the tower in Wetaskiwin on May 14, and in Calgary on May 21. And to the crew of Car #76 who obliged us again in Wetaskiwin May 28. That little job requires muscles, and those gentlemen showed off their prowess very nicely. |
