The Press Gallery is pleased to announce that we are the proud sponsors of Lord Strathcona's Horse (Royal Canadians) Mounted Troup.
Lord Strathcona's Horse (Royal Canadians) is stationed in Edmonton and has a rich and proud history dating back to the Boer War, South Africa, in 1900 - 1901. The Regiment, founded by Donald Smith (Lord Strathcona and Mount Royal), had served our country as a Calvary unit in The South African "Boer" war and WWI.
As an Armoured Regiment they have served in WWII, Korea, Kosovo and presently in Afghanistan. They have regrettably lost a member in the war. The Regiment has three Victoria Cross recipients - the highest medal for bravery bestowed to individuals in The Commonwealth and 29 battle honours.
The mounted troop is a separate society that travels Alberta and Canada promoting The Regiment. The mounted members "Vadets" are all serving members of The Regiment.
