Lord Strathcona’s Horse (Royal Canadians) is stationed in Edmonton and has a rich and proud history dating back to the Boer War, South Africa, in 1900 - 1901. The Regiment, founded by Donald Smith (Lord Strathcona and Mount Royal), had served our country as a Calvary unit in The South African “Boer” war and WWI.

As an Armoured Regiment they have served in WWII, Korea, Kosovo and presently in Afghanistan. They have regrettably lost a member in the war. The Regiment has three Victoria Cross recipients – the highest medal for bravery bestowed to individuals in The Commonwealth and 29 battle honours.
The mounted troop is a separate society that travels Alberta and Canada promoting The Regiment. The mounted members “Vadets” are all serving members of The Regiment. |
As a part of our sponsorship, The Press Gallery maintains the uniforms, horse blankets and pendants of Lord Strathcona’s Horse (Royal Canadians) Mounted Troup.
