The Loyal Edmonton Regiment Museum
The Press Gallery is proud to support The Loyal Edmonton Regiment Museum,
which is located in the Prince of Wales Armouries. We have successfully restored and maintained the Museum's uniforms, which date back to the First World War.
The Loyal Edmonton Regiment has a rich and proud history dating back to 1908; the regiment's all volunteer ranks have been predominantly from Edmonton and surrounding area. The regiment's war service began in 1915 as the 49th Battalion (Edmonton Regiment), raised by Major-General William Griesbach, a veteran of the Boer War and a former Mayor of Edmonton, to serve in the fields of France as part of the Canadian Expeditionary Force.
Returning to active service in the Second World War, the troops of what was then called The Loyal Edmonton Regiment formed part of the liberation of Italy, including being the principal regiment in the famous Battle of Ortona.
Since 1945 The Loyal Edmonton Regiment has contributed troops to many peace keeping missions around the globe, and to Canada's current mission in Afghanistan.
The Loyal Edmonton Regiment has 40 Battle Honours, and two members have received the Victoria Cross - the highest award for bravery bestowed on individuals in the Commonwealth.
Regrettably The Loyal Edmonton Regiment has lost three young soldiers in the current war in Afghanistan.
The Press Gallery is proud to support our community.

Murder on the Nile
The Press Gallery a proud to sponsor Players de novo production of
Agatha Christie's
Murder on the Nile
Benefitting Catalyst Theatre and The Victoria School Foundation
Was held On Friday, May 14, 2010

Once again the show and reception on 14 May provided the perfect match of collegiality and fundraising. Over 700 lawyers and theatre professionals, both onstage & backstage and a truly supportive audience, had a fabulous evening, performing and watching a classic Agatha Christie whodunit, filled with talent and comedic timing. The cast, made up entirely of volunteer lawyers and judges, and Edmonton Police Chief Mike Boyd, were ably guided by a very talented and professional (read patient) directing team of Jonathan Christenson and Michele Brown. Costume designer Brian Bast borrowed many period costumes from costume collections around the city and returned them to their owners after being cleaned by The Press Gallery. This year marks The Press Gallery's 4th consecutive year supporting this valuable project.
Players de Novo, now in its 5th consecutive year, won the 2010 Mayor's Award for Sustained Support for the Arts at the Mayor's Celebration of the Arts on 22 March at the Winspear Centre. To date, 5 not-for- profit local theatre companies and the Victoria School Foundation, have shared over $300,000 in proceeds raised from this annual event.
Players de Novo are proud to sponsor the 2010 Elizabeth Sterling Haynes Awards for Set Design and Costume Design at the Sterling Awards evening on 28 June at the Mayfield Dinner Theatre.
