Golf Course scheduled to Open May 3rd!!
This is probably the first time in about 25 years of our existents we have not been able to open in April. The late snow storm that hit us set us back a couple of weeks. However on the good side the moisture was a welcome relief to what had been a very dry spring. All indications are that the golf course came through in good shape, we still have a few hoops to go through in regards to the weather gods, but if the temperature improves in the next few days we should have a solid start. Phase 3 Now registered!!
We have now completed the registering of all three phases of our development. Phase 3 is now complete and buyers can now complete their title transfers. This completes all three phases of our development, sales exceeded our expectations with only a few lots left to sell in the last phase. |

With the snow slowly diminishing the kitchen is getting revved up for another busy year. We have made lots of improvements to our menus again this year, giving it a fresher and healthier look. We will be opening the County Line and Barney's Lounge this Saturday. Rain, Shine or Snow.
Due to high demand, This year Wolf Creek will be adding a Mother's Day Dinner Buffet. This accompanied by our popular Mothers Day Brunch will allow Wolf Creek to cater to all. There will be 2 Brunch sittings @ 10:00 and 2:00 with a Dinner Seating @ 6:00. The Dinner menu will differ from the brunch with the removal of all Breakfast Items and the addition of more Dinner orientated cuisine. Space is limited, so make your reservations today. From the Golf Shop-Jae Stiles
With the delayed start we have had plenty of time to complete some changes in the shop for this year, including lighting and fixtures. We have brought in several new lines such as Puma to give us a distinctive European look with our clothing. With the opening of the new nine this year we are going to introduce a new logo for the overall development including the villages. We are presently toying with the names for each course, however for all the traditionalists the old logo will still be kept to represent the original golf course. The new logo will reflect a more modern look that will be added to some of our golf lines this summer. We plan to introduce this new theme slowly and as we progress to the opening of the new golf course. I have attached a copy of the logo for everyone to get a sneak preview!!! |

Communicating with the Members & Players!!!
I would be willing to wager that the most frequently asked question during the spring and the fall months is; what time will the frost lift? Nobody knows, but every minute of the delay is justifiable. Frost is as lethal as spilt gasoline or a fertilizer burn. In short, frost is caused by dew freezing. When stepping on frosty turf frozen ice crystals physically puncture cell walls causing death. Affected areas become dark brown in appearance and can take several weeks to recover. Even though areas around the clubhouse and driving range might be free of frost keep in mind that shaded sites take substantially longer to lift.
Perhaps the most misunderstood part of the game is how to correctly fix a ball mark. A poorly repaired ball mark can take three times longer to heal than one done properly. Many believe the correct way involves inserting your tool underneath the mark, prying it up then tapping down the lifted turf. Poor results occur since this method severs the roots, a bear spot exists until new turf is generated. By pushing the turf around the mark towards it's centre without prying up we keep the turf alive. A properly repaired ball mark can heal within 8 days. Fixing an additional ball mark will also help improve putting surfaces.
Even non-golfers know that aerating is necessary but very few know the true reasons why it is done. Benefits are numerous, foremost aerating alleviates compaction. Pore space inside the soil is increased, improving its ability to hold air and water. Porosity is required to allow the exchange of carbon dioxide (respired by the roots) and oxygen. Surface runoff is also reduced, improved water percolation through the soil profile occurs. Over time greens become layered, aerating helps open channels allowing both air and water to pass. Other benefits include removing organic matter, thatch, amending soils and promoting new growth. Remember aerating is crucial too proper management of our golf course, the inconvenience to the players is short term pain for a long term gain.
Topics surrounding golf course maintenance are as numerous as the people who work at them. The superintendent position has changed dramatically over the last twenty years. Major efforts are being made to improve professionalism, education and visibility. By creating open dialogue with golfers a greater understanding will develop of how we can all help improve playing conditions.
